Brad has been working with cars of all makes and models from 1900 to the present day for the last 20 years. He looked after one of Europe's largest collections of cars on public display, as well as having a client base that ran in to the thousands both nationally and internationally.
Brad (Bradley Mauger) started working with cars for his school work experience aged 14 at the Haynes Motor Museum. On his first day he worked on a Jaguar XK150 that belonged to John Haynes OBE and when the mechanic took Brad out for a test drive he was hooked. He worked hard for the following two weeks and was offered a job working weekends cleaning the car collection at the Museum. Every so often Brad was allowed to work alongside the senior technician and developed his skills where he could. When Brad was due to leave school the museum offered him an apprenticeship which he was thrilled about.
During the first years of his apprenticeship Brad worked on many different cars learning his trade. This included looking after and preparing Porsche 911 race cars for the Haynes family, preparing museum collection cars to give museum visitors pleasure rides and carrying out routine maintenance to the collection where required. Brad was able to test drive the vehicles he worked on at the age of 16 on the private test track, one very lucky young man.
After a few years the museum expanded its business and started taking on work for external customers, this is where Brad gained a huge amount of experience, working on cars of all types and ages. It was a daily occurrence to be working on a run of the mill car like a Ford Focus in the morning and then doing a cambelt change on a Ferrari or other exotica in the afternoon. This business grew very quickly and soon the workshop had five technicians working on anything that came through the door.
After finishing his three year mechanical apprenticeship Brad wanted to continue to learn, so went on to complete a HNC in advanced vehicle electronics and workshop management. The HNC included completing an amazing project on the Jaguar XJ220, Brad got to know these cars extremely well. This experience went on to serve him well as Brad was promoted to the position of Workshop Manager in 2009, aged just 23. An exciting challenge for someone so young, as everyone else who worked in the business was a lot older, but he embraced this challenge and went on to achieve some great things.
Brad always wanted to get back to his passion; looking after and restoring classic cars, so in 2015 the focus of the business was completely changed. Brad project managed the installation of a body shop, paint shop and engine building shop. The business was absolutely thriving. The team expanded to 13 and he was looking after customers both locally and internationally. While doing all this, Brad continued to learn by completing a Professional Certificate in Management with the Open University, which gave him in-depth knowledge of business management skills.
Brads knowledge of classic and specialist cars is so extensive, he has been asked to make live appearances on stage at the London Classic Car Show twice, being interviewed by both Tiff Needell and Max Girardo. He's also been involved in TV work including BBC's The One Show, and worked with high profile celebrities on various film sets.
In 2021 after many happy years working for the Museum Brad decided to get back to what he enjoyed most, being hands on with beautiful classic cars and wanted to focus on his own future by building something for himself. This is when Brad's Classic & Specialist Cars was formed and so far has gone from strength to strength with some great jobs coming through the door, for some great people.
